There was a story (fiction), I think it was in SPEAK magazine, about a man being followed by sharp magnetic shards of metal for his entire life--from birth to death, if I remember it correctly. The man avoided the magnets by being always on the move, traveling from place to place, staying one step ahead. At the end of the story, the man is buried in the ground and the magnets find him. They hover for a second or two above his grave and then plunge into the earth. I heard this song before I read the story, but the two have always been connected for me, maybe by Mark Kozelek's voice, which is a natural vehicle for aggregate desperate longing. [BUY]
